This entry is a bit of inside baseball, to clear up a few internal matters on the blog.

One of the biggest changes I had to make on the blog was my reluctant decision to put comments on moderation. It's too bad, but trolls from alt.tv.game-shows were bombarding the blog with nonsensical comments. It just got to be too much of a pain to monitor and delete them all. Luckily, moderation seems to have worked well so far. The quality and quantity of the comments have risen, and more than a few interesting threads have resulted.

One obvious caveat. Though I hardly ever delete comments any more - almost all the comments I zap are clearly spam - I do reserve the right to reply to criticism. If you rip me a new one in a comment, don't be amazed when I rip back. I'll follow my own guidelines and won't get obscene or libelous, but I will respond forcefully. Just sayin', so you know.

Let's see, what else...oh, GSN seems to have stopped sending me the pdf schedules. Last one I got was for this week (July 30-August 5). I'll check their online schedule now and then to see if anything of interest is happening. But I won't be able to answer any more requests for detailed episode info beyond what's published online.

Hadn't stopped by Game Show Forum for a while. I landed on this weird thread about Buzzr's acquisition of Classic Concentration . Apparently the original poster intended a parody of some wrestler's comments from long, long ago. Nobody got the reference, which was understandable. But I noticed another goof in the original post... Ron Garfield, whether he mortgaged his house one time, maybe two times, maybe three times, came up with the right figure for NBC to air Classic Concentration on his network. Uh, no. Ron Garfield doesn't work for Buzzr any more. Check his LinkedIn page if you don't believe me. The new general manager of Buzzr is Mark Deetjen, who also plays a little poker in his spare time. Maybe the poker skills came in handy in the Classic Concentration deal. There was an exec shakeup at Buzzr earlier this year, which seems to have strongly affected the diginet's direction. Fightin' lights

My game show viewing today has only included a few eps of Cash Cab on GSN. But there's some odd news from Buzzr. Folks say that the oldies diginet has uncorked promos for a Thanksgiving weekend marathon of Great Christmas Light Fight . Fremantle produces this holiday reality show, so it looks like they're trying to get a little more mileage from reruns on Buzzr. Unlike another offbeat Buzzr experiment, Richard Simmons' Dream Maker which was a flop from the first ep, Light Fight has performed quite well for ABC. The show has usually drawn audiences of four to six million, peaking at close to seven million. Not bad at all for super-cheap reality fare. That's why the show has survived for five seasons and will kick off a sixth skein on November 26. The Buzzr reruns are probably just a long promo for that new season on ABC. Yeah, they were game show hosts

A guy named Bradley Clarke puts some cute articles about game shows on the Interwebs now and then. He's got a new list of celebs who hosted game shows, even if you don't recall their gigs in the genre. As a grizzled old game show blogger, I do remember all these hosts. Though I'll admit that I've spent way too many hours watching game shows which didn't deserve way too many hours. One of Clarke's picks is Carrie Ann Inaba, who hosted GSN's reboot of 1 vs. 100 in 2010. This was a show that I thought did deserve a bigger audience, but my view was not the received opinion. GSN had to cheapen the prize money and production values - this is cable, folks - and that left the reboot open to easy criticism. Carrie was also not the best host, as she tended to rely on irritating catch phrases. Sure enough, Bradley Clarke plods through some of these complaints in his acidic view of GSN's version.
